Martial Arts Memorial Event and Program Update
To all of our Roots Martial Arts Families,
Thank you all for you patience during this transitional period since the unexpected passing of Senei Thom a few weeks ago. In the few days after his death we had the privilege of getting to meet several of Thom's sons and former students. Through these connections we met Tom Brown who is one of Sensei Thom Devine's former students who has been running his own martial arts program (Tigon Martial Arts) for the past 12 years. We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Tigon to offer the continuation of the Martial Arts Program here at Roots Gymnastics Center.
In Thom Devine's honor we are offering a free memorial event here at the gym on Friday, April 28th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. This event will provide some time for reflection and remembrance about Sensei Thom as well as offering a variety of martial arts activities, and an opportunity to meet the new instructors who will be taking over the program. And for anyone who attended any of Sensei Thom's camps or special events in the past, there will, of course, be pizza. Please call the front desk (562-2333) to sign up for this event so we know how many students to expect and how much pizza to order. In addition, we will have a social worker onsite from 6:00-7:30 for any students or families who may be in need of some additional support during this time.
Classes will resume on Monday, May 8th for a 6 week term that ends on Saturday, June 17th.
Pricing will be $99 for the 6 week term for new students. Those who were enrolled in the shortened term 4 will receive a credit for the 3 weeks that were missed. The credit amount is $49.50, which would make the cost for the 6 week term $49.50 ($99 - credit of $49.50 = $49.50). For those looking to take more than one class during the 6 week term, the following rates will be in effect: $129 for two classes or $164 for unlimited classes.
Schedule: As Tigon Martial Arts is picking up this program in the middle of the year, we are reducing the schedule from our previous offering for staffing purposes. Please note the schedule outlined below is only for the next 6-week program. Our goal is to increase class offerings beginning in the fall, and a summer schedule will be available soon.
- Monday 6:30-7:20 (Kids Open Class Ages 5+) and 7:30-8:30 (Teen/Adult)
- Thursday 5:45-6:35 (Kids Open Class Ages 5+) and 7:00-8:00 (Teen/Adult)
- Saturday 11:00-11:50 (Kids Open Class Ages 5+)

Finally, not all of our martial arts families are on our email list. Please reach out to others who may have been affected by Sensei Thom's passing who may want to attend the event.
